The Harris County Sheriff's Office is investigating possible foul play after a child under age 5 was found unresponsive at an Exxon gas station on Cypresswood Drive in Spring on Thursday, Aug. 6.

The child's parents drove to the Exxon at 25819 Cypresswood Drive around 8:20 p.m., where Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office deputies were already on scene, according to KPRC 2. The child was unconscious and not breathing when the family pulled up to the station.

Deputies immediately began performing life-saving measures on the child until EMS arrived.

The child was transported to a nearby hospital and is being treated. Officials have not released the child's condition.

After the child reached the hospital, detectives launched an investigation into the possibility of foul play. Investigators secured a second scene at the family's home in the 3000 block of Rendezvous Court in Spring, roughly two miles from the gas station.

Harris County Precinct 4 deputies handled the initial emergency response at the Exxon, but the Sheriff's Office has since taken over the investigation. HCSO deputies and Precinct 4 investigators remained at the Rendezvous Court home Friday morning, collecting evidence as part of the ongoing case.

Authorities have not disclosed what caused the child's medical emergency or explained why detectives are treating the case as possible foul play. Neither agency has issued a public statement beyond the initial details provided to KPRC 2.

No arrests have been announced.
