Constable Mark Herman's office wants Spring-area residents to protect their holiday deliveries before package thieves get to them first.

The Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office, which patrols Spring and north Harris County, issued the warning as online shopping ramps up heading into the holidays. Herman's office outlined several steps residents can take to keep packages from disappearing off their doorsteps, according to KPRC 2.

The constable's office said residents should:

  • Track deliveries so they know when packages will arrive.
  • Bring packages inside as soon as possible.
  • Request a delivery signature so someone at home has to sign for the package.
  • Ask a trusted neighbor to grab packages when no one is home.
  • Use a secure locker or pickup location instead of home delivery.

The office also recommended leaving clear instructions for drivers to place deliveries somewhere secure. Installing a video doorbell or security camera was another precaution the office listed.

The Precinct 4 Constable's Office posted on X on Nov. 1 that online shopping "creates opportunities for package thieves, better known as PORCH PIRATES!"

The office urged neighbors to watch out for each other. Anyone who sees suspicious activity should report it to law enforcement.
