Harris County Constable Mark Herman's office and the Spring ISD Police Department met Tuesday, July 28, to coordinate security plans for the new school year, with more than 32,000 students set to return to class on Wednesday, Aug. 12.

Captain Buddy Gheen represented the constable's office at the Spring ISD School Safety and Security Meeting, according to a post on the Precinct 4 Facebook page. The Spring ISD Police Department presented updates on safety preparations and discussed strategic initiatives for the district's 41 campuses, the constable's office said on X.

No specifics were disclosed.

Those 41 campuses include 24 elementary schools, eight middle schools, six high schools and three ninth-grade centers spread across a district about 20 miles north of central Houston, according to the Spring ISD website. The Spring ISD Police Department has served the district since 1991.

Herman's office, which describes itself as the largest constable's office in the United States, serves north Harris County and has an ongoing partnership with Spring ISD on school safety. Earlier in July, Herman sent letters to Spring ISD and six other districts asking them to ban e-motorcycles on campus ahead of the school year, ABC 13 reported.

The constable's office said it is committed to working alongside local school districts and law enforcement partners to strengthen campus safety as students head back to the classroom.

Spring ISD police did not post separately about the meeting.
