Harris County Constable Precinct 4 is warning drivers to stay away from the Cypresswood Drive and Champion Forest Drive intersection after reports of high water Tuesday, Aug. 4.

Constable Mark Herman's office posted the alert on X, advising motorists to avoid the area if possible and to monitor the agency's social media channels and its free C4 NOW mobile app for live updates.

No all-clear had been issued as of the time of this report.

The high-water report marks the latest in a string of summer storms swamping Spring-area roads. The Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner's office closed roads in the area due to rainfall as recently as July 24. In June, the Spring Fire Department placed multiple boats and high-water rescue vehicles on standby during a separate flash flood watch.

What drivers should know

Flash flooding is the leading cause of weather-related deaths in Texas, according to TxDOT. As little as six inches of fast-moving water can cause a driver to lose control, even in a pickup truck or SUV.

Texas's "Turn Around, Don't Drown" campaign warns drivers to stay out of floodwater. Under state law, drivers who go around barriers blocking flooded roadways face a fine of up to $2,000 and up to 180 days in jail.
