A woman died after an early morning crash shut down all southbound main lanes of Interstate 45 in Spring on Sunday, Nov. 1, the Harris County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) said.

Deputies were dispatched to the 18200 block of North Freeway near Parramatta Lane at about 1:30 a.m., as first reported by ABC13, citing HCSO.

A driver in a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta failed to stay in a single lane on the southbound freeway, struck multiple delineators and an impact attenuator, and the vehicle rotated on the roadway, investigators told ABC13. A second vehicle, a 2025 Jeep Cherokee traveling in the southbound lanes, then struck the right side of the Volkswagen, officials said.

The Jetta's driver was rushed to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the Jeep Cherokee showed no signs of intoxication and was released from the scene, authorities told ABC13.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez posted on X that the crash appeared to involve "a possible impaired driver" who "failed to drive in a single lane of traffic." That post reflected conditions at the time it was published.

All southbound main lanes near Parramatta Lane were closed during the investigation. The lanes reopened and the scene was cleared around 5 a.m., according to officials.

HCSO's Vehicular Crimes Division is leading the ongoing investigation.
