Spring-area voters can download a free app to find polling locations, preview their ballots and check registration status ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm election.

The Harris County Clerk's Office is rolling out the Harris Votes app, which officially launches Thursday, Oct. 1, according to Community Impact. The app is already available for iPhone and Android users.

The registration deadline is six days away. Voters must register by Monday, Oct. 5, to cast a ballot in the Nov. 3 midterm. Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector and Voter Registrar Annette Ramirez said the county has more than 2.7 million registered voters, about 90 percent of those eligible, according to KPRC 2. That leaves roughly 200,000 eligible residents who haven't signed up. Mail-in registration applications must be postmarked by Oct. 5 or dropped off at a Harris County Tax Office.

The app lets voters find vote centers, view a personalized sample ballot, see election dates, receive reminders, check registration status and follow live election results. The same information is available on the Harris Votes website.

Previewing the ballot matters more than usual this cycle. Harris County Clerk Teneshia Hudspeth said on Sept. 28, while unveiling the county's "Plan. Check. Vote." billboard campaign, that "Harris County has one of the longest ballots in the nation, so any average voter when they go in to vote, whether it's early voting or Election Day, will have anywhere from 100 plus contests and pages to go through … So that's part of the planning process."

Hudspeth also launched 13 multilingual billboards across the county on Monday, Sept. 28, as part of a broader voter education push using radio, television, social media and multilingual materials.

The app launch comes as Harris County works through a backlog of about 108,000 voter registration records delayed by a Texas Department of Public Safety software error, CW39 reported. The Texas Secretary of State's Office confirmed those registrations will be backdated to when voters originally submitted them. Anyone who registered through DPS online services but doesn't appear on the rolls can cast a provisional ballot.

Spring-area voters can use any county vote center during early voting or on Election Day. The county has operated under a countywide vote-center model since 2019.

Key dates for the Nov. 3 election, according to Houston Public Media: early voting runs Oct. 19 through Oct. 30, the last day to apply for a mail-in ballot is Friday, Oct. 23, and Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
