Canaan, a senior at Carl Wunsche Sr. High School, was one of four Girl Scouts selected from nearly 39,000 members across Southeast Texas to speak at a major Houston luncheon on Sept. 22.
The Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council chose Canaan for its 16th annual Success to Significance Luncheon at the Hilton Americas in Houston. The event is the council's top annual fundraiser, with proceeds from ticket sales and sponsorships supporting its programs for girls across the region.
Canaan took the stage and shared how her Girl Scout experience shaped her leadership and community service, according to Spring ISD's Thursday, Oct. 1 Facebook post. That included her Silver Award project, which focused on increasing access to menstrual products for people in need.
The other three honorees have not been publicly identified by the council.
NASA Johnson Space Center flight director Diana Trujillo served as the luncheon's keynote speaker. Trujillo led a panel discussion with the honorees, asking them about their favorite Girl Scout memories and the STEM-focused projects that earned them their awards, according to the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council.
Spring ISD celebrated Canaan's selection in a Monday, Oct. 5 post on X, saying the district was proud to join her at the event and calling it a memorable day. The district described Canaan as moving from Girl Scout to student leader, noting she used her voice to make an impact in her community.
The Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council serves nearly 39,000 members across Southeast Texas. Being selected as one of four speakers from that membership puts Canaan in rare company for a Spring ISD student.
The council has not announced any follow-up events tied to the luncheon.
