A shooting outside the Burger King on East Cypresswood Drive in Spring stemmed from a narcotics deal gone wrong, the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office said Monday, Aug. 3.

Tarvis Howard was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Investigators determined the victim had arranged to meet Howard to purchase narcotics in the restaurant's parking lot in the 400 block of East Cypresswood Drive, near I-45. During the encounter, the two became involved in a struggle over a firearm, and the victim was shot, according to the constable's office.

The victim, an adult male, was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The constable's office has not released an update on his condition.

Deputies with Constable Mark Herman's office responded to the scene Sunday, Aug. 2, after reports of a shooting at the busy commercial corridor. The office posted a live update on X warning residents to avoid the area due to a heavy law enforcement presence while the investigation continued.

It was a fast arrest.

As we reported Aug. 3, a suspect was taken into custody shortly after the shooting, but the suspect's name, the formal charge, and the drug-deal circumstances had not yet been confirmed by investigators. The constable's office released those details the following day in a statement reported by Click2Houston, confirming aggravated assault with a deadly weapon as the formal booking charge against Howard.
