Harris County sheriff's deputies arrested Klein High School's former head football coach Saturday on charges of indecency with a child and sexual performance by a child.

Nicholas Alan Codutti, 43, is accused of sexually abusing a former Tomball ISD student beginning when she was 16 years old, according to court records obtained by ABC13. The alleged abuse occurred in 2018 and 2019 while Codutti worked as a coach at Tomball High School. Court records allege the relationship continued until the woman was 23.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) confirmed the arrest, Click2Houston reported. Klein ISD terminated Codutti's employment after his arrest, according to a notification letter Klein High Principal Shannon Strole sent to families.

Codutti served as Klein High's athletic coordinator and head football coach. He had been on administrative leave and away from students since May, when the district notified Klein High staff and families of the allegations, according to KHOU.

The HCSO investigation began April 29 after Texas Child Protective Services received a report of longstanding sexual abuse. The Houston Chronicle reported that the woman disclosed the abuse to a therapist, who then filed the report.

Court records allege Codutti and the student exchanged sexual images before beginning a physical sexual relationship. The encounters allegedly took place at Codutti's home and on the school campus, according to ABC13.

The Chronicle reported that the woman told investigators Codutti would grab and threaten her when she tried to end the relationship.

Detectives filed charges Friday, and HCSO's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team took Codutti into custody and booked him into the Harris County Jail, Click2Houston reported, citing HCSO. No court date has been announced, and no bond amount has been reported.

Klein ISD said the alleged conduct occurred while Codutti was employed by another district before he joined Klein ISD. The district said Codutti passed all required background checks and received positive references from previous employers before he was hired. Codutti worked at Tomball High School from 2017 to 2021, according to the Chronicle.

Tomball ISD had not responded to requests for comment from ABC13 and KHOU as of their reporting.

If convicted of the most serious charge, Codutti could face up to 20 years in prison, the Chronicle reported. He is presumed innocent until proven guilty. It was not immediately known whether Codutti has an attorney.
