Jorge Luis Perez, 24, has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault after allegedly turning a pickup truck around and intentionally striking an 18-year-old woman on FM 1960 near the North Freeway, the Harris County Sheriff's Office announced Tuesday, Aug. 4.

Perez was booked into Harris County Jail.

The arrest closes an information gap in the case. As we reported earlier Tuesday, the woman had been transported to a hospital in critical condition after being struck in the 400 block of FM 1960, but HCSO had not released a suspect or vehicle description at that time.

According to Click2Houston, which cited the sheriff's office, investigators believe Perez and the victim are in a dating relationship and that both are from Arkansas. The two were traveling together inside a pickup truck when an argument broke out. At some point, the woman got out of the vehicle. Perez allegedly drove away, then turned around and intentionally hit her with the truck before fleeing the scene.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said on X that the victim, believed to be 18 years old, remained hospitalized in critical condition as of the evening of Aug. 4.

The incident occurred in unincorporated north Harris County, just off I-45 in the Spring area. No bond amount or court date has been announced.

The investigation remains active, according to HCSO. Residents with information can contact the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
