Spring ISD will open applications for its Schools of Choice programs on Monday, Nov. 9, giving families a shot at specialized campuses for the 2027-28 school year.
The district announced the date on its social media accounts and on its School Choice webpage. The application deadline is Feb. 5, 2027.
All fifth- and eighth-grade students in Spring ISD and outside the district are eligible to apply, according to the district's website. Families can apply to multiple schools using a single online application.
What schools are available?
The district lists eight Schools of Choice campuses. Here's what families need to know about the options:
Carl Wunsche Sr. High School is a career academy organized around three towers: professional, technology and medical. Principal Kevin Banks leads the campus at 900 Wunsche Loop. Students take four years of advanced academics, including AP and dual-credit coursework, and can graduate with an associate degree. Wunsche accepts only incoming ninth-graders.
Spring High School, led by Principal Alonzo Reynolds III, offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) through the School Choice process. Spring High School is an IB candidate school pursuing authorization as an IB World School. The MYP option is open to rising ninth-graders from any school inside or outside Spring ISD. Students zoned to Spring High School who qualify get first preference.
Dekaney High School houses the Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) program, which partners with Lone Star College–North Harris. Students can earn a high school diploma and an associate degree with a focus on computer programming. Principal Connie Smith leads the campus. Dekaney-zoned students get first preference.
Spring Early College Academy, on the Lone Star College-North Harris campus, lets students earn up to two years of college credit at no cost while completing high school. Principal Brandi Rodney leads the school.
Roberson Middle School serves grades 6–8 with four communities: STEM, law enforcement, performing arts and environmental science. Principal Cecelia Brumsey leads the campus. Only current fifth-graders may apply.
The district also lists Momentum High School, Spring Leadership Academy and Springwoods Village Middle School as Schools of Choice. Students zoned to Springwoods Village Middle School do not need to complete the application because they have automatic acceptance.
How the selection works
The process has three phases. Phase one reviews grades, attendance, STAAR scores, conduct and MAP scores to determine eligibility. Students who pass move to phase two, which may include an audition or interview. Those who advance enter a lottery for available seats.
Accepting a seat means committing to three years for middle school or four years for high school. Students cannot transfer back to their zoned campus.
Application help sessions
The district is offering virtual application assistance sessions for individual campuses in November and December. In-person sessions will be held at the Community Engagement Center, 17125 Ella Blvd. Those sessions are available in English and Spanish.
Transportation and contact
Spring ISD will provide transportation for accepted students who are zoned to any Spring ISD school. Families of students from outside the district must arrange their own transportation.
Families with questions can call the Office of School Choice at 281-891-6728.
