Harris County authorities charged a 14-year-old with murder in the Aug. 22 death of Tavian Soileau, 17, near Hidden Meadow Park in Spring.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez announced the arrest Friday, Sept. 25, saying the teen was taken to the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center. The suspect's name was not released.

Precinct 3 deputies responded to the 12800 block of Montclair Bend on Aug. 22 after a 911 call came in around 1:30 p.m. A passerby had spotted someone unconscious inside a vehicle, according to FOX 26.

Deputies found Soileau dead in the driver's seat. Officials at the scene described "obvious signs of severe trauma."

An earlier sheriff's office update described injuries "believed to have been from a firearm," ABC13 reported. The weapon has not been confirmed in the final announcement.

Gonzalez did not release a motive or say whether anyone else was involved. Sheriff's office detectives spent roughly a month investigating before making the arrest on Thursday, Sept. 24.

The charge comes during a week that saw multiple deadly incidents involving teenagers across the Houston area. In a separate Spring-area case, another 14-year-old was charged with murder in the Tuesday, Sept. 22, death of 15-year-old Royce Witchet, who was shot near Westfield High School, KHOU reported. A judge ordered that suspect to remain in juvenile custody and undergo a psychological evaluation. That suspect is due back in court Oct. 8. Authorities have not connected the two cases.

Statewide, the Texas Juvenile Justice Department received 2,474 referrals in 2025 for juveniles accused of crimes involving firearms, a 45% increase from 1,708 in 2020, according to ABC13's 13 Investigates. Juvenile homicide referrals rose 65% over the same period, from 91 to 150.

No next court date has been announced in the Soileau case. Anyone with information can contact the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
