Buren Bakery, the Puerto Rican bakery in Old Town Spring, will open a second location in the same shopping center in September.

Owner Alexandra Astacio told Community Impact the new space will add an indoor dining area and new menu items. The expansion comes two years after Astacio, a native of Puerto Rico, founded the bakery in June 2024.

The second location will let customers sit down with their pastries instead of grabbing and going.

Astacio's current menu features Pan Sobao, a traditional Caribbean white bread; Quesitos, puff pastry filled with cream cheese and finished with simple syrup; Mallorcas, enriched yeast rolls topped with powdered sugar; and Bavarian Cream Horns called Tornillos. The bakery also serves scratch-made sourdough, coffee imported from Puerto Rico and coquito lattes inspired by the island's traditional holiday drink made from coconut milk, cream of coconut and warm spices.

Before opening the bakery, Astacio spent years in corporate jobs. She built a following selling Puerto Rican baked goods at The Woodlands Farmers Market, then planted her business in Old Town Spring. She noticed a lack of authentic Puerto Rican bread in the Spring area after moving here and felt compelled to learn to bake her own.

Each morning, Astacio and her family arrive hours before opening to bake scratch-made pastries using an 11-to-20-hour fermentation process. She told Community Impact that each batch is baked with care, driven by her passion for community.

"Beyond coffee and pastries … Buren Bakery offers a sense of community and a way to hold on to the memories and nostalgia of the island she left behind," Astacio said.

The exact September opening date and specific new menu items for the second location have not been announced. The original Buren Bakery remains open.
