Three ghost tour operations are leading walks through Old Town Spring's darkened streets through late November, each with its own take on the turn-of-the-century village's haunted lore.

Houston Ghost Tour runs nightly year-round from Kris10's Gems at 311 Main St. in Spring, according to Community Impact. The family-friendly walk starts at 8 p.m. and is geared toward ages 8 and older. The R-rated tour, for ages 13 and older, begins at 9:30 p.m. Both cost $20. Ghost hunts are also offered in Spring.

Michael Sweeney, Houston Ghost Tour's talent director, told Texas Highways that Old Town Spring's history fuels the storytelling. "Maybe it's a perfect combination of tragedy, violence, and the curse the town is said to have," Sweeney said.

The 8 p.m. tour skips the grisliest details, according to Texas Highways, stopping where spirits are said to be harmless. The 9:30 p.m. version spares nothing. Sweeney said guides don't have to hold back on the later tour, and that shop owners in Old Town Spring report odd occurrences after hours, including things being moved and shadow figures.

One popular stop is the Wunsche Bros. Café & Saloon. Local accounts say Charlie and Dell Wunsche opened the building as a hotel, saloon and brothel near the railroad tracks in 1902. Since the building was restored after a 2015 fire, guides say a man's silhouette has appeared in an upstairs window. Staff blame Charlie for silverware going missing and faucets turning on by themselves, according to Texas Highways.

The Old Town Spring/Tomball Ghost Walk is a separate operation with dates running through late November. Costumed guides lead lantern-lit walks, according to the tour's website. Tickets run $12 to $15. The Old Town Spring walks meet at Trilogy Brew, 417 Gentry St. in Spring. The Tomball walk meets at the Old Train Depot on South Elm Street. Most events are geared for ages 13 and older, though some permit children ages 6 to 12 with an adult. Private tours are available by contacting [email protected] or calling 281-410-1300.

A third operator, The Last Stop Ghost Tour, offers a 90-minute guided walk through Old Town Spring, according to Community Impact. Specific dates, pricing and a meeting location were not listed in the publication's guide.

James Sharp, vice president of the Spring Historical Museum, told Texas Highways the history is what sets the village apart. "Without the history of the area," Sharp said, "it's just an old town where you can shop and eat."
