Shoppers at the Spring Creek Road H-E-B can sign up for a free library card Saturday, Sept. 19, when the Montgomery County Memorial Library System sets up a pop-up table from 2 to 4 p.m.

Staff from the George and Cynthia Woods Mitchell Library will handle sign-ups on the spot, The Woodlands Online reported. Visitors can also renew an existing card or check out materials.

Everyone who signs up, renews or checks out an item will be entered in a gift card drawing.

The pop-up is part of Library Card Sign-Up Month, a nationwide effort that started in 1987. The Montgomery County Memorial Library System (MCMLS) participates every September, and its branches are running free programs throughout the month, including storytimes, book clubs and technology workshops.

Residents who cannot make the Sept. 19 event can register online for a digital access card at countylibrary.org.
