Southbound lanes on the North Hardy Toll Road are closing overnight through Monday, Oct. 19, as contractors perform roadway work on a stretch between Airtex Road and Old Hardy Road.
The closures were first reported by CW39 Houston, citing a traffic alert from Harris County Constable Mark Herman's Precinct 4 office. Harris County Toll Road Authority (HCTRA) contractors are performing the roadway work, according to the report.
Herman's office posted the traffic alert warning motorists about the alternating nightly closures along the southbound main lanes.
The closures began Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 10 p.m. They are scheduled to wrap up by 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19, according to the alert.
Which lanes close
The project shuts down alternating sections of the two left and two right southbound main lanes each night. The work zone runs from Airtex Road south to the Union Pacific Railroad crossing at Old Hardy Road.
Only the southbound main lanes are affected. The closures alternate between lane sections rather than shutting down all four lanes at once, according to the CW39 report.
What drivers should do
Herman's office advised motorists to slow down, use caution in the construction zone and allow extra travel time for their commute.
The overnight schedule means late-evening and early-morning commuters heading south toward Houston are most likely to encounter the work zone. Drivers who use the North Hardy Toll Road corridor through Spring should plan ahead through the weekend.
Drivers can check Houston TranStar for real-time traffic conditions before heading out.
