The Harris County Sheriff's Office completed a large-scale active shooter training exercise at Faithbridge Church in Spring on Wednesday, Sept. 2. The drill tested how HCSO's tactical teams and partner agencies coordinate during critical incidents.

HCSO's Special Enforcement Bureau and its Tactical Division led the exercise at the church's campus at 18000 Stuebner Airline Rd. The sheriff's office did not name the partner agencies that took part.

The agency posted on X after the drill that the exercise focused on strengthening coordination and sharpening response to active-shooter scenarios. HCSO said the training prepares first responders for situations where every second counts.

On its Facebook page, the sheriff's office described the drill as a chance for first responders to train together in a realistic environment. That post drew more than 7,400 views and 93 reactions.

HCSO had warned the public ahead of the exercise. The agency said the drill was scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. and told residents near the church to expect an increased law enforcement presence, patrol units and loud activity in the area.

The sheriff's office posted a similar notice on Threads, reassuring community members that the heavy police presence was a planned training exercise only. The agency asked for the community's patience.

Active shooter drills at houses of worship and other public gathering places allow law enforcement teams to practice entry, evacuation and communication procedures in settings that mirror real threats. Faithbridge Church, at 18000 Stuebner Airline Rd. in Spring, provided that kind of large-scale venue.

The sheriff's office did not say whether additional drills are planned at other Spring-area locations.
