Youth flag football teams across the Spring area can register for a shot at a national championship without leaving the neighborhood.

The Houston Texans NFL FLAG Regional Tournament returns to Farm League Park on Saturday, Dec. 5, with early-bird registration open through Oct. 12 at $399 per team. After that, late registration runs Oct. 13 through Nov. 2 at $549, according to the NFL FLAG tournament page.

Division winners earn a free bid to the 2027 NFL FLAG Championships Presented by Toyota, the sport's premier youth event. The 2026 championships drew 3,500 athletes from more than 350 teams to Westfield, Indiana, in July.

Who can play

Based on the tournament's established format, divisions range from 8U Coed through High School Girls, including competitive coed brackets at 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U, girls-only divisions at 10U, 12U, 14U and high school, and recreation divisions at 8U, 10U and 12U Coed. Recreation spots are limited to players from Boys and Girls Clubs, YMCAs, JCCs, PAL programs or Park and Recreation NFL FLAG leagues whose athletes played in one of those leagues within the 12 months before the event. The age cutoff is Aug. 1, 2026.

Each roster holds up to 10 players and a maximum of two coaches. The format is 5-on-5 non-contact flag football.


Game day details

Farm League Park, at 19717 Stuebner Airline Road in Spring, has hosted the Texans Regional since at least 2025 and has been an NFL FLAG affiliate venue since 2010. Check-in opens at 7:30 a.m. with first games at 9 a.m. Teams receive jerseys and flag belts at check-in. Every team is guaranteed at least three pool-play games, and the top half of each division advances to a single-elimination bracket.

Custom jerseys with player names on the back are available as an add-on this year.

The tournament is one of 15 fall regionals held nationwide, each affiliated with an NFL club. High School Football America reported Wednesday, Aug. 5, that registration for all 15 events opened the same week. Flag football is building momentum toward its debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, raising the profile of youth tournaments at every level.

Brian Flinn, NFL senior vice president of global flag football, said July 26 after the 2026 NFL FLAG Championships in Westfield, Indiana, that the sport's growth "is being fueled by athletes whose talent, leadership and passion continue to raise the profile of the game."

Teams within 75 miles of Farm League Park are exempt from the event's stay-and-play hotel requirement. Spring-area families can register at nationalsportsid.com.
