Klein's Bearkats rolled to a 37-14 victory over Klein Cain on Homecoming Night at Klein Memorial Stadium, pushing their record to 7-0 on the season.

Senior quarterback Carter Latelle connected with junior wide receiver Mike Brown on a 90-yard touchdown pass in the first half. Klein led 15-7 at the break and extended the lead to 30-7 with five minutes left in the fourth quarter before Klein Cain added a late score.

The win keeps Klein undefeated under interim head coach David Perez, who took over the program before the season. VYPE Houston reported the final score and noted the Bearkats "took care of business" on Homecoming Night.

The 7-0 start is a striking turnaround. Klein snapped a seven-year playoff drought just last season, finishing 6-5 and reaching the Bi-District round. Latelle missed the 2025 season with an injury but has returned healthy and in command of the offense. Brown, named District 15-6A's Breakout Player of the Year in VYPE Houston's preseason preview, has lived up to the billing.

Thursday's blowout was the second straight year Klein handled Klein Cain. The Bearkats beat the Hurricanes 71-34 on Sept. 12, 2025, their first win over Klein Cain in seven years, according to the Klein High student newspaper.

After the Bearkats' 37-20 win over Klein Oak on Sept. 22, Latelle told the Bearchat, "Tonight felt good … I feel like our defense played really well tonight. Our offense left some points on the board but we still executed really well."

Klein Cain, led by head coach James Clancy, entered the game with 14 returning starters after a 4-6 finish in 2025 that ended a streak of six straight playoff appearances.

Klein travels to Tomball ISD Stadium to face Tomball High School on Friday, Oct. 16. The Bearkats then return home to Klein Memorial Stadium against Magnolia West on Thursday, Oct. 22, before closing the regular season at Klein Collins on Friday, Oct. 30.
