Klein Collins senior Andrew Jones capped one of the best hurdling seasons in Texas high school history with the state's top individual honor: the 2025-2026 Gatorade Texas Boys Track and Field Player of the Year.

Klein ISD announced the award on Thursday, July 30. The Gatorade Player of the Year, presented since 1985, recognizes athletic excellence, academic achievement, and community involvement. Past winners include LeBron James, Peyton Manning, Allyson Felix, and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone.

Jones swept the UIL Class 6A State Championships, winning titles in both the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles. At the Texas Relays in Austin on April 3, he became the first high school athlete in the meet's history to break 13 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles, clocking 12.97 seconds. That time broke his own previous all-conditions high school record, though it came with a wind reading of +2.8 meters per second, making it wind-aided rather than wind-legal.

He wasn't done.

Jones also set a national record of 34.72 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles at the UIL 6A area meet. The El Paso Times called his UIL State 110-meter hurdles victory potentially "the greatest high school hurdles race ever."

The Klein ISD Board of Trustees recognized Jones at its July 15 meeting. In a Facebook post that day, the district said Jones's record-breaking performances made the Klein family proud and expressed excitement about his next chapter.

Jones has committed to run track and field at Texas A&M University.
