Klein Collins dropped to No. 21 in the VYPE Houston Class 6A Top 25 after a 38-28 loss to Willis left the Tigers at 1-1.

VYPE published the Week 3 rankings on Tuesday, Sept. 8, with North Shore at No. 1 and Willis climbing to No. 6. Klein Collins, which opened the 2026 season with a 42-21 win over Tompkins on Aug. 28, fell after the Week 2 road loss to the Wildkats on Saturday, Sept. 5.

The loss carried extra weight. Klein Collins beat Willis 42-13 in 2025, a result that evened the all-time series between the two programs at 2-2, according to a USA Today preview of the Week 2 matchup. Willis got its revenge and then some.

The Wildkats have earned statewide attention. Dave Campbell's Texas Football listed Willis at No. 24 in its Class 6A state rankings heading into Week 3 with a 2-0 record. Sophomore quarterback Linc Frazier threw for 411 yards and two touchdowns in Willis' Week 1 shutout of Magnolia, according to Woodlands Online.

Head coach Adrian Mitchell's Tigers entered 2026 with high expectations after an 11-2 season that ended in the Regional Semifinal round of the playoffs. But the roster turned over significantly. Klein Collins returned only six starters, and senior quarterback Brylon Jefferson is in his first year running the offense after replacing District MVP Braydon Schoggin.

Jefferson has experienced playmakers around him. Senior running back Tyce Hudson rushed for 620 yards in 2025, and senior wide receiver Quincy Armstead is the primary target in the passing game. On defense, second-team all-district senior linebacker Aden Earl anchors the middle alongside senior Landon Hedrick, with senior defensive back Jonathan Colon holding down the secondary.

Klein Collins hosts Tomball Memorial on Thursday, Sept. 10. Both teams compete in District 15-6A, and VYPE's preseason projections listed the Tigers as a playoff contender alongside Tomball, Klein Oak and Klein. A win would move Klein Collins back to 2-1 before district play begins.
