Klein Collins and Klein Bearkats both landed in the VYPE Houston Class 6A Top 25 football rankings, ranked No. 17 and No. 21 in the Week 4 poll.
The rankings, published Sunday, Sept. 13, give District 15-6A two ranked teams heading into the stretch before district play begins.
Klein Collins (2-1) earned its spot after routing Tomball Memorial 66-17 on Friday, Sept. 11. Senior running back Tyce Hudson carried four times for 128 yards and three touchdowns, then added four catches for 36 yards and a fourth score. The Houston Chronicle named Hudson a top performer for the week, noting the 66 points were Klein Collins' highest single-game total since 2024.
Head coach Adrian Mitchell's Tigers opened the season with a 42-21 win over Tompkins on Aug. 28 before falling to Willis 38-28 in Week 2. Willis entered the state rankings at No. 24 after that victory, according to the Houston Chronicle's state poll.
The Klein Bearkats are the bigger surprise. Interim head coach David Perez's squad sits at 3-0 after beating Klein Oak 37-20 on Sept. 11, a result VYPE called "a huge win." According to MaxPreps, the Bearkats opened with a 22-3 victory over JVHS on Aug. 27 and blanked Eisenhower 37-0 on Sept. 4.
Klein has outscored opponents 96-23.
Last season, the Bearkats snapped a seven-year playoff drought under Perez, finishing 6-5 and reaching the Bi-District round. VYPE's preseason district preview projected Klein fourth among District 15-6A playoff contenders, behind Tomball, Klein Oak and Klein Collins.
The Bearkats travel to Tomball Memorial at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19.
