Klein Oak quarterback Andre Phillip II enters his senior season with a West Virginia University commitment and a seven-touchdown game behind him.

ABC13's Joe Gleason spotlighted the 6-foot-2, 190-pound signal-caller in a Houston-area season preview published Monday, Aug. 24, calling him "a player to keep an eye on this season." The Texas high school football season opened the week of Aug. 24.

"Not to have a big ego, but when I step on the field I know I'm the best on the field and trusting the work that I put in and trust in every play the coach calls and try to score a touchdown off it," Phillip II told ABC13.

The dual-threat quarterback committed to WVU on May 8, choosing the Mountaineers over offers from Iowa State, Army, Navy, Rice, Air Force, UTEP and others, according to Sports Illustrated. He is part of WVU's 2027 recruiting class.

Phillip II won't carry the Klein Oak offense alone. Junior running back Micah Rhodes rushed for 1,309 yards last season and earned VYPE Houston's District 15-6A Offensive Player of the Year honor. Senior lineman Ke'Lan Foster earned first-team all-district recognition, and Xavier Smith made second team, according to VYPE's district preview.

The Panthers went 5-5 in 2025, narrowly missing the playoffs. VYPE projects Klein Oak as one of four playoff contenders in District 15-6A alongside Klein Collins, Klein and Tomball.

Klein Oak's defense returns Division I talent. Junior defensive lineman Max Farmer, senior Andrew O'Leary and senior linebacker Zack Ruysenaars all earned first-team all-district honors. Senior defensive back Quincy Carter has committed to UTSA.

Phillip II is a two-sport athlete as well. The Klein ISD Board of Trustees recognized Klein Oak's boys 4x400 relay team, which included Andre Phillip, for finishing second at the UIL 6A state meet at its June 8 meeting.

District 15-6A play will pit the Panthers against Klein Collins, Klein, Tomball, Klein Cain, Magnolia, Magnolia West, Tomball Memorial and Klein Forest this fall.
