Ten Lone Star College System students will start internships at Foxconn's Houston-area facilities in September, working hands-on with automation equipment, AI servers and data center hardware at one of the region's largest manufacturers.

Nearly 50 students have already applied for Foxconn internship slots through Handshake, the career platform LSCS uses to connect students with employers, according to Woodlands Online. The positions span engineering, software development, data visualization, supply chain and human resources.

The demand is real.

"Foxconn strives to hire local employees in response to market demand, seeking individuals with classroom knowledge who are ready to learn and grow in a fast-paced industry," Robert Schlaeger, head of U.S. region public and government affairs for Hon Hai USA, said in a statement released Tuesday, Aug. 25.

The internship pipeline grew out of LSCS's Industry Partnerships and Career Advancement department, which launched in fall 2025 under Chantell Link, Ph.D. The department's first major event was a Foxconn job fair at LSC-North Harris in November 2025 that drew more than 100 students to meet recruiters. On Aug. 10, LSCS administrators toured Foxconn's facility near LSC-Houston North Fallbrook to learn about the company's data center operations and workforce needs.

Foxconn operates five campuses and 11 facilities in the Houston area, employing thousands. The company has manufactured in northwest Harris County for nearly 30 years, dating to its original role making Compaq computer chassis. It is now expanding to meet demand for AI and data center hardware.

The partnership comes as LSCS hit a record 97,221 students in spring 2026, a 6.4% jump from the prior year, according to college enrollment data.
