Crews building the new Spring High School expect to have air conditioning running inside the building by December. The milestone signals the bond-funded campus is shifting from structural work to interior systems.

Spring ISD said on X on Sept. 17 that framing and MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) systems are progressing throughout the building. Workers are assembling mechanical mezzanines, the elevated platforms that house large air-handling units, ahead of HVAC installation.

The contractor anticipates conditioned air will be operational by December, according to the district. Interior finishes will follow once the climate-controlled environment is in place.

The district described the project as ahead of schedule in a May 7 update, when electrical, plumbing and ventilation installation was just getting started and interior framing was advancing. By the Sept. 17 post, that work had progressed to mechanical mezzanines and HVAC preparation.

Football field, natatorium advance

Between the May and September updates, the football field reached final grade. Turf installation was being held off as of May 7 while work continued around the field and track.

Construction in the pool building is also moving forward. Crews have begun installing wood decking and glulam trusses, the laminated timber beams that will form the natatorium's roof system.

Bond program context

The new Spring High School is the flagship project of Spring ISD's 2022 bond program, a roughly $850 million package voters approved in November 2022. The bond funds safety upgrades, facility improvements and new construction across the district.

The district has not announced a projected opening date for the completed campus. The December target applies only to the HVAC system, not to the school's opening. Spring ISD has not posted a date for its next public construction update or board discussion on the project.
