Three-time Olympian Dominique Dawes will be in Spring on Aug. 22 to open the doors of her namesake gymnastics academy at 19750 I-45 — the second Texas location for the growing national chain.
The grand opening celebration runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is free to attend. Families can expect open gym play, coach meet-and-greets, giveaways and snacks, according to the academy's Instagram announcement. Dawes will be on-site to greet visitors. The academy is asking families to RSVP through its Linktree page.
"Spring is a wonderfully family-centered community, and after the response we saw in Jersey Village, we knew this was the right place to grow," Dawes told Community Impact. "We can't wait to create another space where kids feel encouraged, supported, and inspired."
The Spring location follows the academy's Jersey Village facility, which opened in May. Dawes, a member of the 1996 "Magnificent Seven" gold-medal team and the first African-American gymnast to win an individual Olympic medal, launched her first academy in Clarksburg, Maryland, in July 2020. The company now operates locations in five states, with a ninth facility opening in New Jersey in September, according to its website.
What the academy offers
Programs include recreational and competitive gymnastics, ninja classes, tumbling and homeschool sessions. The academy also hosts summer camps, birthday parties, open gym and Kids' Night Out events.
Families pay month-to-month with no long-term contract. Sibling and multi-class discounts are available, and new students can book a free trial class at dominiquedawesgymnasticsacademy.com.
The timing lines up with the start of the school year. Spring ISD and Klein ISD students return to class on Wednesday, Aug. 12, giving families just over a week to settle into routines before the grand opening.
A busy month for Spring businesses
The academy joins a wave of new openings along the I-45 and FM 2920 corridors. Storah Fashionwear, a Latina-owned women's clothing boutique, will hold its grand opening at 3422 FM 2920 on Aug. 15. Leader Fitness, a Tomball-based 24-hour gym chain, is building a 30,000-square-foot facility at 22606 Kuykendahl Road, with an opening date still to come.
