The Heritage Trails Chapter of Spring joined four neighboring Daughters of the American Revolution chapters on July 25, to permanently install a bronze America 250! Patriot marker at Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Park in Conroe, honoring Revolutionary War ancestors during the nation's 250th anniversary year.

Five chapters split the cost.

The Spring Creek Chapter, based in The Woodlands, co-sponsored the marker alongside Heritage Trails, the Margaret Montgomery Chapter of Conroe, Coushatti Trace Chapter of Willis, and Mary Vaughan Corner Chapter of Montgomery. Each chapter secured a $500 grant from the national DAR organization and raised additional matching funds to cover the marker's permanent base, according to Woodlands Online.

The marker is part of a nationwide DAR initiative to place at least one America 250! marker in every state as part of the U.S. Semiquincentennial celebration. DAR was the first heritage society to formally partner with America250, the commemoration effort led by the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission.

State Rep. Will Metcalf presented an official proclamation at the ceremony, which drew Texas DAR State Officers Dr. Jan Garrison and Anthony Startz along with Martha Hirsch, the national vice chair for America 250. The Freedom Chapter Sons of the American Revolution Color Guard also participated.

Special recognition went to the late Judge Jimmie C. Edwards, Elizabeth Woods, and Thomas Turner of the veterans memorial park, as well as Dick Stein of Classic Bronze Resource, Texas Gravestone Care of Porter, and event photographer Connie McNabb.

A community reception followed the unveiling. The full ceremony was livestreamed and remains available on the Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Park Facebook page for those who want to watch the dedication and proclamation in full.
