Harris County deputies arrested a local high school employee Wednesday, Sept. 9, on a charge of indecency with a child involving sexual contact.

Michael Lynn Jackson Jr., 35, was taken into custody by the Harris County Sheriff's Office Violent Persons Apprehension Team and booked into the Harris County Jail, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said on X.

Jackson worked at a local high school at the time of the alleged incident, according to Gonzalez. The sheriff did not name the school or specify the degree of the felony charge.

Gonzalez credited HCSO Detective Cozart and the investigative team for the work leading to the arrest.

No public statement from Jackson or a legal representative was available as of publication.

Indecency with a child is among the offenses covered by Texas Proposition 3, a constitutional amendment voters approved in November 2025. The amendment requires judges to deny bail for defendants charged with certain violent and sexual felonies if prosecutors demonstrate by clear and convincing evidence that bail would not ensure community safety.

Senate Bill 9, signed into law Sept. 1, 2025, put the amendment's provisions into effect, Houston Public Media reported. Whether those provisions have been applied in Jackson's case is not clear from available records.

In a February 2026 letter supporting the bail law, Gonzalez wrote: "For some people, there is no amount of money that can justify allowing that person to walk freely among our society." That statement was about the law broadly, not about this case.

Jackson has been charged but not convicted. All persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

No court date has been announced. The case remains under investigation by the Harris County Sheriff's Office, which asks anyone with information to contact the agency.
