Ten new firefighters joined the Spring Fire Department's ranks on Friday, Sept. 4, after completing the department's new-hire orientation academy.

The department announced the badging on its official X account, describing the academy as rigorous and noting the recruits trained through weeks of summer heat. The post included video highlights of the training.

The new hires were not the only ones recognized that day. A separate group of newly promoted captains and apparatus operators also received their badges on Sept. 4, according to a department post in May previewing that ceremony. That group completed its first live burn at the W.W. "Cotton" Weaver Training Center before earning the promotions.

The 10 additions come as the department staffs nine fire stations across 62 square miles of northern unincorporated Harris County. The territory covers roughly 168,000 residents, about 47,000 homes in more than 100 subdivisions and over 25 schools from three school districts. It also includes portions of Interstate 45, the Hardy Toll Road and the Grand Parkway.

Before the Sept. 4 ceremony, the department's Join Our Team page listed 126 full-time firefighters, 10 part-time firefighters and 25 volunteer firefighters. Whether those figures already reflect the new class is unclear.

The department has been building out its training operation. In November 2025, Spring Fire hired Kevin J. Alexander Jr. as its first District Chief of Professional Development, a new role overseeing training and leadership programs.

Alexander brought more than 30 years of experience with the Houston Fire Department, where he served as Assistant Fire Chief of Professional Development and Recruit Training Coordinator. Deputy Chief Jeffery L. King praised Alexander's background in a November 2025 press release, calling his combination of operational experience and commitment to developing others an asset to the leadership team.
