The Spring Fire Department's Open House and Fire Prevention Expo, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3, has been pushed back three weeks because of forecast storms and heavy rain.

The department announced the postponement Friday, Oct. 2, on its X account. The rescheduled event is set for Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the W.W. "Cotton" Weaver Training Center on Lexington between Louetta and Spring Cypress.

The open house marks the public grand opening of the 52,000-square-foot facility, which the department opened in a private Phase I ceremony with the Weaver family in May. SFD communications director Tracee Evans told Community Impact Newspaper the event will let visitors explore the building, see the department's burn buildings and training props, and meet first responders.

The expo will include safety demonstrations, vehicle tours, food trucks and activities for all ages. Mutual aid partners are also expected to take part. The event kicks off Fire Prevention Month.

The center is named for W.W. "Cotton" Weaver, one of Spring's first volunteer firefighters, who began serving in 1953. Weaver, a former fire chief, was honored at a memorial service in January.

The Spring Fire Department serves about 168,000 people across 62 square miles in north Harris County.
