A 1.5-mile hike and bike trail connecting Spring neighborhoods along Faulkey Gully is under construction, backed by $4.7 million from Harris County Precinct 3 and two local utility districts.

The asphalt loop will run along the north side of Faulkey Gully, linking Guernsey Drive to Spring Cypress Road, according to a Precinct 3 announcement published Wednesday, Sept. 2. The trail will also tie into an existing path in Municipal Utility District (MUD) 5, giving walkers and cyclists a longer connected route through the area. A new pedestrian bridge will join the two sides of the trail for a safe crossing.

Harris County Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey, Faulkey Gully MUD and Malcomson Road Utility District are sharing the $4.7 million cost. The project grew out of Precinct 3's Parks and Trails Master Plan, which identified the Faulkey Gully corridor as a gap in the local trail network.

The effort has been years in the making. Precinct 3 announced in May that construction would "soon begin" on the trail as part of an expansion of the Cypress Creek area network. By September, crews were on site.

Michelle Steadman, vice president of the Faulkey Gully MUD, said the project has been a long push for the community.

"This is seven years in the making to connect existing trail along Faulkey Gully," Steadman said. "We're very excited to finally have this in construction."

She said the surrounding neighborhoods are full of families who need the additional trail and called the partnership between the MUD and county "what MUD and county partners are all about."

Ramsey toured the construction site with community members during the week of Thursday, Sept. 3, the Precinct 3 office said on X. In a statement, Ramsey said the project shows what county and utility district partners can accomplish together and called the trail "a beautiful trail for families to enjoy."

Construction is expected to wrap up in the first quarter of 2027. No ribbon-cutting or public opening date has been announced.
