Spring ISD launched a community survey on Friday, Sept. 11, asking students and residents to pick the mascot for the new Spring High School.

The district posted the call to vote in English and Spanish on its X account, directing people to an online survey. Spring ISD said it wants to honor the school's traditions while shaping its next chapter. The post tagged @SPRINGHIGHLIONS, the current Spring High School account.

The survey opened Sept. 11 at surveymonkey.com/r/SHSMASCOT. The district has not announced a deadline for voting.

The mascot vote comes as construction crews continue building the new Spring High School at 630 Riley Fuzzel Rd. Voters approved the project as part of the district's $850 million bond package on Nov. 8, 2022. Proposition A, the largest piece at $681 million, included rebuilding the school at a new location.

The original Spring High School was built in 1968 and had surpassed its useful life cycle, according to the district's project website.

The replacement campus will span 680,490 square feet across two floors and will accommodate up to 3,500 students in grades 10–12, with a dedicated ninth-grade center. Plans call for a 1,200-seat performing arts center with a full fly loft, four gyms, a 1,000-seat arena, a 250-seat natatorium with a competition pool and a 13,668-square-foot agricultural barn with 56 pens.

The project is on track for completion in summer 2028, according to a February 2026 bond update from the district. As of Aug. 14, crews were working on the building's exterior and interior systems.

Gary Hutton, Spring ISD's general manager of operations, said in the February update that the campus will give students access to athletics, performing arts, career and technical education, and agricultural programs that can "truly change the trajectory of their lives."

Huckabee Architects and Smith & Company designed the campus. Stewart Builders is the contractor. Eman Hindic, a project manager with Stewart Builders, said in February that the team is building on a 60-year legacy of the original school and that the finished campus will offer opportunities for students and the broader community alike.
