Wood beams are rising over the pool at the new Spring High School, marking the latest visible milestone in the approximately $850 million bond program's flagship project.
Spring ISD said in a post on X on Tuesday, Sept. 8, that a site visit the previous Friday showed brand-new wood beams going up in the pool area and continued work on the pavilion training facility at the campus under construction at 630 Riley Fuzzel Rd.
The pool area will house a 250-seat natatorium with a competition pool and removable bulkhead. It will be the only competition pool in the district, according to the project's website.
The new campus will span 680,490 square feet across two floors. It can accommodate up to 3,500 students in grades 10–12, alongside a dedicated ninth-grade center. Voters approved the 2022 Bond on Nov. 8, 2022. Proposition A, valued at $681 million, funds construction of the new school.
Huckabee Architects, Smith & Company and general contractor Stewart Builders are leading the build. In a February 2026 district bond update, project manager Eman Hindic of Stewart Builders said the team was "building on a 60-year legacy of the original Spring High School."
The campus design also includes a 1,200-seat performing arts center with a full fly loft, a flexible black box theater, four gyms, a 1,000-seat arena and a 13,668-square-foot agricultural barn with 56 pens. The ag barn will sit within Spring ISD boundaries and adjacent to the campus for the first time in the school's history.
Construction has tracked ahead of schedule. A May 2026 district update reported electrical, plumbing and ventilation systems going in throughout the buildings, with the football field reaching final grade. By mid-August, crews had moved to exterior work and quality testing.
Gary Hutton, Spring ISD general manager of operations, said in the February bond update that the campus "provides access to opportunities students haven't always had," including athletics, performing arts, career and technical education, and agricultural programs.
The district projected completion for summer 2028.
