Window installation is underway at the new Spring High School, Ponderosa Elementary has fresh flooring, and Dekaney High School's natatorium is getting a new HVAC system. Those are among the highlights in Spring ISD's latest bond program newsletter, released Tuesday, Aug. 25, two weeks into the new school year.

The updates show continued progress on the district's $850 million bond program, approved by voters in November 2022. The largest single project, a rebuilt Spring High School at 630 Riley Fuzzel Rd., was reported ahead of schedule in a May 7 district update, with electrical, plumbing and ventilation systems being installed and the football field reaching final grade.

The new campus will span 680,490 square feet across two floors and hold up to 3,500 students in grades 9-12, including a dedicated ninth-grade center. It replaces the current building, which dates to 1968.

Planned amenities include a 1,200-seat performing arts center with a full fly loft, four gyms, a 1,000-seat arena, a 250-seat natatorium with a competition pool and a 13,668-square-foot agricultural barn with 56 pens.

Beyond Spring High, the bond is funding work at multiple campuses. Beneke Elementary also received new flooring this summer alongside Ponderosa. A June 3 district post noted projects moving at Reynolds Elementary, Westfield High School and the EPIC center, though specific details on those campuses were not included in the latest newsletter summary.

Spring ISD, which serves roughly 33,590 students across 41 schools, said in its Facebook announcement that the bond program covers renovations, safety enhancements, technology upgrades, facility improvements and new construction.
