Spring ISD students who ride the bus will need their school ID badge to board starting Monday, Sept. 14.
The district's "No Badge, No Ride" policy, first introduced last school year, requires every student to wear an ID badge before stepping onto a bus. Students badge on and off using the district's Smart Tag system, which tracks each bus in real time and notifies parents through a free app. The district posted the enforcement date on its website and urged families to make sure students have their badges ready.
Spring ISD serves 33,590 students across 41 schools. The district repeated the announcement in a Friday, Sept. 4, post on X, calling it a "safety initiative" that gives families "peace of mind through bus tracking."
Lost badges cost $5 to replace. The district has not said publicly what happens if a student shows up at the stop without one.
Parents can download the Smart Tag app to follow their child's bus route in real time. More details are available on the district's Smart Tag page at springisd.org.
