The Spring ISD Education Foundation launched a new resource program called the Teacher's Closet on Wednesday, Sept. 9. The foundation also awarded $250 mini-grants to educators across the district at the same event.

Spring ISD praised the effort on social media, calling it a day of celebration and appreciation for teachers who go above and beyond for students. The district thanked the foundation for investing in educators and giving them resources to make an impact in classrooms.

The mini-grants give teachers $250 each to help with classroom needs. In the 2024-25 school year, the foundation awarded 20 such grants to teachers at campuses across the district, according to the foundation's website. Teachers applied during summer professional development workshops. The foundation has not disclosed how many educators received grants at Wednesday's event.

The $250 awards are the smallest tier in the foundation's grant program. The organization also funds up to $1,000 for teacher-initiated projects, $2,000 for campus or department efforts and $5,000 for programs spanning multiple campuses.

In the year leading up to its February 2025 partner appreciation event, the foundation contributed more than $110,000 to scholarships, grants, literacy events and other initiatives, according to its partner appreciation report.

That investment matters to teachers.

Executive Director Sandra Scott said at the foundation's February 2025 Partner Appreciation Breakfast that donor funds go "directly to our students, teachers, and staff." Dr. Berky Hernandez, the foundation's vice president of development, said at the October 2025 golf tournament that each donation is "one step closer for one of our students to get into college or finance their college career."

The foundation, established in the early 1990s, has awarded more than $1 million in teacher grants and scholarships since its founding. Its 23rd annual golf tournament in October 2025 raised over $100,000 with more than 140 golfers participating.

The next fundraiser, the 24th Annual Tee Up for Education Golf Tournament, is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 19 at Northgate Country Club. A Mancil Davis Golf Clinic begins at 9 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 10 a.m.
