Spring ISD students and staff across all 41 campuses will take part in a suicide prevention Spirit Week beginning Monday, Sept. 14.
The district announced the five-day event, branded "Hope Starts Here," in social media posts Tuesday, Sept. 8. The week runs through Friday, Sept. 18, during National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.
Campuses plan activities focused on hope, connection and personal well-being, the district said. Those include themed dress-up days, such as a day for students to wear their favorite hat, and campus awareness walks. A full day-by-day schedule has not been posted publicly.
The district said the week is designed to connect its more than 32,000 students and their families with mental health support. Spring ISD's Guidance, Counseling & Mental Health department offers year-round resources through the district website at springisd.org.
Families looking for additional ways to get involved this month can attend the Greater Houston Out of the Darkness Walk on Saturday, Sept. 26, at Town Green Park in The Woodlands. The event, organized by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), is one of several regional walks during September, My Neighborhood News reported.
