Sound Revolution, the Spring-Klein record store that has sold vinyl, tapes and CDs since 1976, is marking its 50th anniversary in October.

Co-owner Sunne Walton, who runs the shop with her husband, Scott Waldrum, said the store's "longevity is amazing" to see. She credited younger customers and their growing interest in owning physical media for helping keep the business going, Community Impact Newspaper reported.

"I think it's a huge impact that customers are still supporting small businesses and stuff, and for the love of music as well," Walton said.

The store operates two locations, one in the Vintage Park area and one near Champions Forest. Its Record Store Day profile describes it as "owned and operated by the original owners" since opening in October 1976. The shop carries rock, rap, alternative, punk and metal across new and used records and CDs, along with turntables, speakers and audio equipment.

Sound Revolution's half-century run comes during a national resurgence in physical music. U.S. vinyl sales hit $1 billion in 2025 for the first time since 1983, climbing 7.9% to 46.8 million units, according to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Variety reported that Taylor Swift's album "Life of a Showgirl" alone sold around 1.6 million vinyl units last year.

CDs are gaining ground too. U.S. CD sales rose 16% during the first half of 2026, reaching 16.3 million units, the San Francisco Chronicle reported, citing entertainment data company Luminate. K-pop collectors drove much of that growth, but even excluding K-pop titles, CD sales still rose 6.7%.

A large share of the buying comes from younger listeners. Nearly 60% of Gen Z consumers purchase vinyl, according to a Futuresource Consulting report cited by WUSF. Streaming still accounts for 82% of U.S. music revenue, according to the RIAA, but physical products increasingly function as collectibles and expressions of fandom alongside digital listening.

The store's website lists hours for both locations. The Vintage Park shop is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. The Champions location is open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.
