Spring voters in the 77373 zip code will have 13 Election Day polling locations on Nov. 3, up from nine in the 2022 midterms.
That gain stands out countywide. Harris County overall will have 589 Election Day sites this cycle, down from 782 in 2022, as first reported by ABC13, citing an ABC News analysis of polling-site data. The net loss is 193 locations.
Nancy Sims, a University of Houston political science lecturer, told ABC13 on Oct. 15 that the countywide decline reflects changing voter habits.
"Fewer people are turning up on election day to cast ballots, and they base where you're going to vote the next time on how many people voted the last time," Sims said.
She added that staffing and supplying each site makes the process logistically complex, which factors into where locations are placed.
Spring's 77373 zip code was one of the few areas to gain sites. The ABC News analysis found polling locations decreased in some zip codes and increased in others, but did not explain why specific areas grew.
The Harris County election office's vote center list includes several 77373 Election Day locations. Among them are Anderson Elementary School at 6218 Lynngate Drive, Cactus Jack Cagle Community Center at 709 Riley Fuzzel Road and Randall Reed Center at 23802 Cypresswood Drive. All Election Day vote centers in Harris County are open to any registered county voter, regardless of home address.
Early voting runs Monday, Oct. 19, through Friday, Oct. 30. Hours at Harris County's 75 early voting sites are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 19–24 and Oct. 26–30, with reduced hours of noon to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25, according to Houston Public Media. The Cactus Jack Cagle Community Center in Spring is among those early voting sites.
