Harris County Municipal Utility District No. 82 will host a free National Night Out event on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at North Spring Park in Spring.

The event runs from 6 to 8:30 p.m. near the pool and Water Plant No. 1, according to the district's event page. Residents can meet local sheriff's deputies and fire department personnel and see police vehicles and fire trucks up close.

Kids' activities include a bounce house, clowns, games and giveaways. Free food and snow cones will be available for everyone.

MUD 82 canceled its National Night Out in 2024 because of scheduling conflicts, according to the district's website. The district said at the time it hoped to bring the event back in future years.

The district's October newsletter announcement also lists a community shred event alongside National Night Out on Oct. 6, but specific details for the shred event have not been published.

Harris County Precinct 3 is also holding National Night Out events at select community centers on Oct. 6. The Office of Commissioner Tom S. Ramsey, P.E., said on X on Monday, Sept. 28, that neighborhood hosts who want a Precinct 3 representative at their event had until Thursday, Oct. 1, to register.

Curbside hazardous waste pickup available

MUD 82 is also promoting a curbside Household Hazardous Waste Collection service through HHW Solutions, a Best Trash company, according to the district's service announcement.

The service picks up items that are hard to dispose of on your own. Accepted materials include old paint and stains in quantities of one to four gallons, pool and yard chemicals, automotive fluids including motor oil and gasoline, rechargeable batteries, mercury lamps, propane tanks of 30 pounds or less, and even ammunition, fireworks and flares.

Items must be at the curb by 7 a.m. on the scheduled collection day. Residents can book a pickup at hhwsolutions.com or at (281) 313-2378.

MUD 82's board meets the fourth Monday of each month at noon. Meetings are open to the public. Residents can sign up for district alerts at hcmud82.com/alerts.
