Jonathan Owens, the Indianapolis Colts safety who lives in Spring with wife Simone Biles, survived the NFL's final roster cuts on Sunday, Aug. 30.

The Colts trimmed 37 players to reach their 53-man limit, and Owens, 31, made the cut as one of four safeties alongside Cam Bynum, A.J. Haulcy and Hunter Wohler, according to WRTV Indianapolis. Sports Illustrated's Horseshoe Huddle noted Owens provides veteran special-teams value for the club.

The roster spot marks Owens' ninth NFL season. He played the previous two years with the Chicago Bears and has also suited up for the Green Bay Packers, Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals. Owens played college football at Missouri Western State, a Division II school, and entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Cardinals in 2018.

Owens and Biles, the most decorated gymnast in history with 11 Olympic medals and 30 world championship medals, share a home in Spring. The couple met on the dating app Raya in 2020, got engaged in 2022 and married in 2023. Biles grew up in Spring, and her mother founded World Champions Centre, the gymnastics training facility in town.

Owens told The Pivot podcast in late 2023 that he did not initially recognize Biles when she first messaged him on Raya. "When she won the Olympics, I was in college and we didn't have NBC," he said.

Biles has been a regular at Owens' games. USA TODAY reported she attended the Colts' preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons on Aug. 22, wearing a cropped Colts tank top. During the 2024 Paris Olympics, Owens took time off from Bears training camp to watch Biles compete, where she won three gold medals and one silver.

Biles has not competed since Paris and has not said whether she will try for the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

Spring-area fans can circle two dates on the calendar. The Colts open the regular season Sept. 13, hosting the Baltimore Ravens at 1 p.m. EDT on CBS. Two weeks later, on Sept. 27, Indianapolis hosts the Houston Texans on CBS.
