Westfield's defense held Texas commit Landen Williams-Callis out of the end zone Thursday, Sept. 3, but it wasn't enough. A third-quarter field goal gave Richmond Randle a 3-0 victory at Traylor Stadium, dropping the Mustangs to 1-1.

Williams-Callis, a senior tailback and Gatorade Player of the Year finalist, finished with 149 yards on 33 carries, according to High School On SI. His 35-yard run in the third quarter set up the game's only score, a field goal by kicker Ayo Awobokun. SI reported it was the lowest-scoring UIL 11-man game since Waco beat Granbury 3-0 in the 2024 season opener.

The Mustangs nearly tied it late. Westfield lined up a field goal attempt with less than 10 minutes left, but Randle blocked the kick to preserve the shutout.

Williams-Callis sealed the game with a 6-yard gain on third-and-4 with less than two minutes remaining. It was the 42nd time in 47 career games he has rushed for at least 100 yards. He now has 134 career touchdowns, two short of the Houston-area record of 136 set by former Lamar Consolidated star Jacquizz Rodgers. Rodgers is Williams-Callis' cousin.

Westfield's defense entered the game with momentum after a dominant Week 1 showing. Senior edge rusher Talib Foster recorded three sacks and two forced fumbles in a 16-10 win over Heights, according to the Houston Chronicle. That unit held Randle's offense in check for most of the night, but the Mustangs could not find the end zone themselves.

Before the season, Westfield head coach Desmar Black told VYPE Houston in an August preview, "We just need to put the ball in the end zone and not turn the ball over … Our defense returns everyone." The defense delivered. The offense did not.

Randle, ranked No. 3 in the SI Texas Top 25, improved to 2-0 and extended its regular-season winning streak to at least 27 games. The Lions, the defending UIL 5A Division II runner-up now competing in 5A Division I, have allowed just 14 points through two games.

Westfield hosts Willis on Thursday, Sept. 10. Randle has a bye in Week 3 and returns Thursday, Sept. 17 at home against Victoria East.
