Klein Forest High School posted the biggest score increase among Klein ISD's five comprehensive high schools, jumping 8 points to an 89 in the 2026 Texas Education Agency accountability ratings released Thursday, Aug. 13.
The gain helped push Klein ISD's overall rating to 88, up from 86 in 2025 and marking the district's fourth consecutive year of improvement since TEA reset its accountability system with tougher standards in 2023. The district scored 80 that first year.
Every high school improved.
"These results are something our entire Klein Family can celebrate," Klein ISD Superintendent Jenny McGown said in the district's announcement. "They reflect meaningful academic growth and the incredible determination of the people behind our year-over-year gains."
Four of the five high schools earned an overall "A" rating. Here's how each campus scored, with 2025 comparisons:
- Klein High: 94 (up from 92)
- Klein Oak: 94 (up from 90)
- Klein Cain: 93 (up from 87)
- Klein Collins: 93 (up from 88)
- Klein Forest: 89, B-rated (up from 81)
Klein Cain's 6-point climb and Klein Collins' 5-point rise also stood out. As we reported Aug. 13, Klein Collins' jump to 93 earned the school its first A rating under the current system.
Straight A's in college readiness
All five high schools earned an "A" in College, Career, and Military Readiness, with individual CCMR scores ranging from 96 at Klein Forest to 99 at Klein Collins. Klein High, Klein Cain and Klein Oak each scored 98.
The CCMR rating measures whether graduates leave high school prepared for a four-year university, a trade certification or military service. Klein ISD's Class of 2026 also received a record $115 million in scholarship funds, according to district records from the June 8 board meeting.
What the tougher standards mean
TEA overhauled its accountability framework in 2023, raising the bar for what counts as grade-level performance across all Texas districts. Klein ISD's 8-point overall gain since that reset outpaced both regional and state averages in meeting grade-level expectations across all tested subjects, according to the district.
McGown said the CCMR advancement was especially significant because it reflects both current achievement and future preparedness for Klein ISD's roughly 53,000 students.
What's next for families
Klein ISD's 2026-27 school year opened the week of Aug. 11. The Board of Trustees held its most recent regular meeting Aug. 10; the board meets monthly on the second Monday. The next regular meeting falls on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at the Frank A. Lemmon Administration Building, 7200 Spring Cypress Road.
