Three hundred eleven Klein ISD parents and caregivers crossed the stage Wednesday, July 29, at Faithbridge Church in Klein, completing a yearlong program that trains them to be active partners in their children's schooling, according to Klein ISD.

The 12th Annual Parent University Graduation marks steady growth for the district's family engagement initiative.

Last year's class totaled 297.

Parent University was founded in 2013 by Dr. Bob Anderson at Klein Intermediate School. It has since expanded to more than 19 campuses across the district, offering both in-person and virtual sessions on academics, wellness, and personal development, according to Klein ISD Stories.

The program is part of Klein ISD's Title I family engagement strategy. Federal rules require the district to set aside at least 1 percent of its Title I funds for family engagement activities, and the district's Parent & Family Engagement Plan lists Parent University alongside ESL classes and the Mango language program under its Promise2Purpose strategic framework.

Maria Ovalle-Lopez, Klein ISD's director of family engagement, said at last year's graduation in May 2025 that the program helps families take an active role in supporting their children's education. At that same ceremony, Klein Cain parent Edinson Hurtado told graduates that families show up "because we love them. Love moves us, not convenience."

The Wednesday ceremony comes as Klein ISD families face an August 7 deadline to complete the district's required Annual Enrollment Update for the 2026–2027 school year. The update window opened July 20, and all current students must finish it so class schedules and teacher assignments can be finalized before the first day of school. The district is also transitioning to a new student information platform called Skyward Qmlativ this year, though existing usernames and passwords remain the same.
