The Spring Fire Department will open its new 52,000-square-foot training center to the public for the first time Oct. 3.
The open house at the W.W. "Cotton" Weaver Training Center runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Lexington between Louetta and Spring Cypress. The department announced the event on X, calling it the biggest Fire Prevention Month event the department has held.
The Oct. 3 event will give visitors their first look at Phase I of the facility, SFD communications director Tracee Evans told Community Impact. Guests can walk through the building and see the department's burn buildings and training props used to prepare firefighters for real emergencies.
The expo will include safety demonstrations and a festival atmosphere the department described as suitable for all ages. Visitors can talk with Spring firefighters and mutual aid partners, tour department vehicles and grab food from on-site food trucks.
The department first announced the grand opening in July and has promoted the event on social media for months, building it as a signature community gathering to launch Fire Prevention Month.
The training center is named for W.W. "Cotton" Weaver, one of Spring's first volunteer firefighters. Weaver began volunteering in 1953 and went on to serve as fire chief. He died in January.
The department covers 62 square miles in north Harris County.
