Three breast cancer awareness events land in Spring this October, giving residents local ways to support survivors, raise funds and learn about early detection.
The events are part of an eight-event Greater Houston calendar first reported by Community Impact Newspaper. Here is what Spring-area residents need to know.
The Annual Breast Cancer Walkathon takes place Saturday, Oct. 3, at 10 a.m. at Elizabeth Kaiser Meyer Park, 7444 Cypresswood Drive. Admission is $25. Proceeds support the Thompson Isadore-Mena Scholarship Fund, a nonprofit supporting women in need.
HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest, 710 FM 1960, holds a free Breast Cancer Awareness and Education panel on Thursday, Oct. 8, from 1 to 2 p.m. Breast cancer specialists will discuss signs, symptoms, diagnostics and treatment options. The hospital is also honoring survivors and those lost to the disease.
TCOB Armory, 406 Main St. in Spring, hosts "Fall for a Cause" on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The free fundraiser features food trucks, a photo booth and vendors.
A fourth option sits just east of Spring. KBL Walk Club leads a free Pink Ribbon Walk on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Jesse H. Jones Park & Nature Center, 20634 Kenswick Drive, Humble.
Lindsey Pimentel, director of Oncology Services at Houston Methodist Cypress Hospital, stressed the value of screening in a Sept. 22 statement about a separate Houston Methodist awareness initiative. Pimentel said the month reminds people that screening, early detection and timely treatment save lives, and urged women to prioritize regular cancer screenings.
Four more events across Greater Houston round out the October calendar, with options in The Woodlands, Katy and Cypress listed in the full Community Impact roundup.
