The hospital at 2255 E. Mossy Oaks Road that Spring residents have known as St. Luke's Health will get a new name in October: CommonSpirit - St. Luke's Hospital - Springwoods Village.
The system-wide rebrand, reported Monday, Aug. 17, by Woodlands Online, affects nine hospital campuses across Greater Houston. It also comes with an expanded partnership with Baylor College of Medicine that will bring BCM specialists into St. Luke's community hospitals, including the Springwoods Village campus.
The health system says the change is cosmetic for patients on the ground. The same care teams will remain in place, and services at the Springwoods Village location will continue unchanged. Those services currently include cardiac rehabilitation, emergency medicine, general surgery, orthopedics and sports medicine, spine care, and an imaging and diagnostic center, among others.
"This expanded relationship and the introduction of the CommonSpirit name represents an evolution," said Dr. Augusto "Gus" Sepulveda, chief medical officer for CommonSpirit Health's Houston market. "Our mission remains the same and we are committed to providing compassionate, high-quality care and serving patients who have placed their trust in us."
Why the name change?
St. Luke's Health, founded in 1954, became part of CommonSpirit Health after the 2019 merger of Catholic Health Initiatives and Dignity Health. The Houston Business Journal described St. Luke's as the Houston area's fourth-largest health system. CommonSpirit itself operates more than 2,200 care sites in 24 states, making it one of the country's largest Catholic health systems.
The organization said adopting the CommonSpirit name "more clearly reflects" St. Luke's connection to its national parent. The Springwoods Village hospital, which broke ground in 2014 and opened in early 2016, is one of nine facilities getting the new branding. Others include campuses in The Woodlands, Sugar Land, Pasadena and Vintage.
Baylor College of Medicine expansion
St. Luke's and BCM have jointly owned Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center since 2014. The expanded collaboration will extend BCM specialists to community hospitals across the system, though the announcement did not name specific physicians or specialties being added to the Springwoods Village campus.
What's next
Patients will begin seeing new signage and the CommonSpirit logo at area facilities in the coming months. No specific day in October has been announced for the switchover. The organization is launching a "Becoming CommonSpirit" advertising campaign to introduce the new branding across Greater Houston.
