City Place in Spring is packing five events into its fall calendar, headlined by a nearly seven-week illuminated gnome exhibition making its Texas debut.

The mixed-use development at Interstate 45 and the Grand Parkway announced the full lineup Tuesday, Aug. 18, spanning Saturday, Sept. 5, through Sunday, Nov. 8. All programming takes place on or around The Plaza at 1250 Lake Plaza Drive and is free unless otherwise noted, according to Woodlands Online.

The season opens Saturday, Sept. 5, with the return of the Community Car Show from 9 a.m. to noon, featuring vintage, luxury and exotic vehicles alongside art cars, live music, food vendors and family activities.

A week later, the inaugural School of Fly with ORVIS takes over the 150-acre City Place Nature Preserve on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. ORVIS instructors from The Woodlands store will lead one-hour fly-casting clinics and fly-tying workshops throughout the day, with all equipment provided and chances to win premium gear. The event is free, but RSVPs are required for clinics due to limited capacity. Check-in is at The Plaza; activities run at the preserve at 24000 Holzwarth Road.

"Through our partnership with ORVIS, we're able to introduce guests to a new skill in a setting that's unlike anywhere else in the Houston region," Andrew Giammalva, vice president of Coventry Development Corporation of Houston, said in an Aug. 5 announcement of the School of Fly event.

The Color Vibe 5K, which we reported Aug. 11 will mark the nationally touring fun run's Houston-area debut, takes place Saturday, Sept. 19, from 7 a.m. to noon. Ticket and registration details are available at cityplacenow.com. That same evening at 8 p.m., City Place will screen Disney's "Encanto" outdoors as part of its Pix on The Plaza series.

The marquee attraction is Roaming Gnomes, an illuminated art exhibition opening Saturday, Sept. 26, and running through Sunday, Nov. 8. Eight giant, character-driven inflatable gnomes will be scattered across City Place's 60-acre urban core for both daytime and nighttime viewing. The exhibition was created by internationally acclaimed design studio Amigo & Amigo and has appeared at major festivals nationwide.

Admission is free.

Beyond the headline events, free fitness classes continue throughout September: HIIT on The Plaza on Saturdays led by ISI Fitness, yoga on Saturdays from 10 to 11 a.m. (bring your own mat), Zumba on Mondays and Latin Zumba on Thursdays, Ōra Pilates on Sept. 12, and Soccer Shots for ages 2–5 on Wednesdays.

Registration for the School of Fly clinics and the full fall schedule are available at cityplacenow.com.
