Klein ISD's Board of Trustees voted Monday, Aug. 10, to launch a new facilities renovation project and approve changes to 11 district policies, according to the meeting agenda. The action came two days before students return to class Wednesday.

The board took up the 2026 Facilities Renovation Project at its 6 p.m. regular meeting at the Frank A. Lemmon Administration Building, 7200 Spring Cypress Road. The FRP is separate from ongoing construction funded by the district's 2022 bond program, which has paid for renovations at Theiss Elementary and auditorium and traffic-flow work at Klein Collins High School.

The project's scope and dollar amount were not detailed in the posted agenda.

Policy changes cover phones, safety, gifted program

Trustees also approved modifications to 11 local board policies on second reading. The policies had received their first reading at the July 13 regular meeting.

Among the codes updated: FNCE, which governs student cell phones and electronic devices; FFF, covering student welfare and safety; and EHBB, the district's gifted and talented program. Other policies addressed employee and governance matters. The exact language of each modification was not publicly posted with the agenda.

$415,000 November election called for two seats

The board called a Nov. 3 election for Position 1, held by board Vice President Dustin Qualls, and Position 2, held by board President Doug James. Both three-year terms expire this year.

The election is estimated to cost the district $415,000, according to meeting documents reported by Community Impact. The outcome will determine two of seven seats on the dais through at least 2029.

Closed session covers property, personnel, cybersecurity

The board entered closed session to discuss real property, employee matters including Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown's contract and evaluation, security personnel and cybersecurity, student disciplinary matters and economic development negotiations, as authorized under the Texas Government Code.

The district's first day of school for the 2026-27 year is Wednesday, Aug. 12. Residents who want to address the board at future meetings can sign up through the district's website by 10:30 a.m. on the day of the meeting, according to the agenda.
