Two loose horses turned a quiet Thursday morning into an unexpected pursuit near Hayden Lakes Drive and Scarlet Finch Way in Spring.

Deputies with Constable Mark Herman's office responded after the pair was spotted roaming the roadway. They worked to guide the horses safely away from traffic, but the animals bolted and galloped off through the neighborhood instead.

What followed was a brief, low-speed chase that Precinct 4 dubbed its "wildest pursuit of the morning" in an Instagram post.

Deputies eventually contained and "detained" both four-legged runaways, as the office put it. Precinct 4's Livestock Unit then responded to take over the situation and return the horses to where they belong. The owner of the horses was not identified in the office's announcement.

Herman called it "just another morning" in Precinct 4 in the office's social media post, adding that deputies never know who they might have to chase.

No details were released about how the horses escaped or where they came from.
